10 extra years...
I don't watch a lot of TED talks, even though I see bunches of them shared online. But I took a few minutes to watch this one and really liked it, so I'm posting it here, mainly for me to come back to, but also because hopefully someone will stumble across it and enjoy it too.

Run run run
I've said in the past that I want to be able to run. I have no crazy aspirations, really. I don't want to run a marathon. Not even a half, really. But I would like to be able to run a 5K in under 30 minutes. That seems reasonable. Back when I was running on the treadmill regularly I actually had a really good day and finished in 30:20. Those darn 20 seconds killed me. I cranked up the speed as fast as I could at the end when I realized I was getting close, but just missed.
I recently saw an article on starting to run. I'm linking it here so I can find it again. I remember when I first started trying, and I realized that I needed to learn how to run -- that you can't just go and put one foot in front of the other. There's a technique to it. Hopefully I'll get back to it soon.

Jenny Parks Illustrations
I am really enjoying looking at Jenny Parks Illustrations. She has some great stuff here, too. I am very impressed with her cats -- they're not the easiest thing to draw, for sure.

What the world eats
I saw this today and thought it was so interesting. I didn't want this link to get lost in the flood of the Facebook feed. This is a collection of photos of what people around the world eat in one week, by country. It really is fascinating.

A Calendar of Tales
Neil Gaiman is working with Blackberry on a project, which included 12 short stories ... A Calendar of Tales. I need to take a moment to read these, and didn't want to forget. So, if nothing else, this is a reminder to me to come back to these stories when I can focus on enjoying them, and not just read them to get through them.

iPod sync issues
A while back I was having trouble syncing my older iPod to iTunes. iTunes would think that it saw my iPod, but it would never show up on the sidebar. I could see it as an external drive under My Computer, but again no luck with iTunes. I went through a bunch of recommendations from Apple until I found this blog entry and it solved the issue in a matter of minutes. Hopefully I'll never have to come back to this again, but just in case, I wanted it here. And also if you need it. Some of the most helpful tips come from users who have figured things out, and not the actual help FAQ pages.

To watch later
This is Neil Gaiman delivering a commencement speech that I want to go back and watch when I have 20 uninterrupted minutes. There's something about his style of speech, and his ability to deliver a message, that resonates with me.

Further proof that we should avoid high fructose corn syrup
Jeni and I have, for the most part, given up soft drinks. Now don't get me wrong, we love Coke. Some people come home from a challenging day at work and need their beer or martini. No, I crave a nice fizzy glass of Coke. But we've parted ways, and all for the better. A while back, I began to notice a feeling of tightness in my chest when I would drink a lot of Coke. And when I fall off the wagon and get back on the Coke I gain five pounds pretty quickly. And now there's this study by UCLA that further highlights the negative affects of high fructose corn syrup. Yes, HFCS is in things other than Coke, but your soft drink is such a fast and efficient mode of delivery that I use it as my example. I praise places like Earthfare that will not carry anything that contains HFCS. It's a challenge, like avoiding aspertame, because HFCS is so prevalent, but the benefits make it worth it.

Juggling tutorial
Here's a great juggling tutorial page. I can do a lot of these already, but it's nice to see variations. I'm happy with my tricks that I am proficient in, but I'm always looking to add more. Maybe Burke's Barrage...
Also, the DIY juggling equipment blog by Dube that got me to the page above.
