It blooms!

Three years ago, we yanked out all the nondescript, random plants the builder had put in front of our house, and we replaced them with flowering, lively plants. Two of those plants are crinum lilies. And for the past three years they have grown huge in the front flower beds, but have not bloomed. This year we bought another one from a plant sale. This one I presume is older than ours, and it is blooming. This gives me hope that the others will bloom one day. The crapper of it all is that Jeni is up in Ohio with her dad (where she should be, doing what she should be doing) and is missing the blooms. So I took pictures...


Look at all these blooms ready to burst.




It really is a dramatic flower. I'm hoping it will still be blooming when Jeni gets home. If not, at least there's something to look forward to next year.

Memo to myself

If you set up the sprinkler and go back inside, remember to also go back outside and turn it off.

Last night, we were baking some cookies for one of the ladies at work and I started the sprinkler on the side flower bed that was looking pretty puny, and came back inside to see if Jeni needed any help. Well, almost two hours later I remember that the sprinkler was still going. Needless to say, the mulch was still wet this morning when I came out to go to work, and the plants were looking great!

Blooming all at once

The flowers in the front yard are all blooming at once. Last year one would bloom, then that flower would wilt and another would bloom, and it was hit or miss that way all summer. It seems they coordinated their blooming this year and it is so refreshing to come home from work and see all these flowers smiling at me.


I went out to get a few flower pictures and there was a butterfly sitting on this daylily. It let me get right next to it and showed off its wings for me. Funny, though, that it was by the daylily and not by the butterfly bush...

The azeleas are blooming in the front yard....


And the cherry tree is blooming in the backyard.....

I love spring!

Remember way back in the spring, when Dean and I gutted the yard and planted about 400 plants.... Well the one plant I was most excited about finally bloomed. Brugmansia 'Dr.Seuss' This plant stands about 7' tall and its blooms are about 12" long. They are absolutely beautiful. When we took this picture there were about 8 blooms on it. Over the next couple of days Dr. Seuss kept blooming and blooming. We ended up with about 25 blooms. I was really disappointed because I thought it was not going to bloom due to being replanted - to tell you the truth, I had actually given up on it blooming. What a nice surprise!

With this late bloomer, it has already gotten me excited about next spring to see what some of the flowers do that got planted after their blooming period.
