Bad joke teller

The other day someone was telling me a joke that she had gotten as an email. It went something like this:
A guy's breaking into a house and he hears "Jesus is watching." So he looks around and there's a parrot and the parrot says "Jesus is watching." So then, well, long story short, the dog's name was Jesus and it was a Rottweiler.

Now I'm no master joke teller but I'm sure this is not how you tell a joke. But by the punchline I think I'm happy it was shortened.

Not a Powerball winner

We're not $200-millionaires, but we tried. Seems someone else won the Powerball drawing. I actually had a dream last night that we matched four numbers, but not the Powerball. But then the numbers we matched were pairs, 9,9,3,3, which is impossible in Powerball. But that's the fun of it, isn't it, the dreaming of winning -- not that the winning wouldn't be fun, too.

Tough football season

This is not the football season I was hoping for. Jeni and I love football, we love our Volunteers and Colts and we have faith in both coaching staffs to get things back on track. But at the start of football season I could never have imagined that each team would have only one win. And the killer is that I know they have the talent to be undefeated. I guess, like they say, that's why you play the game. But I wish there was a do-over because I'd like two or three bounces to just go the other way for a change. At this point, I'm pulling for Vandy to shock the SEC (as long as they lose to UT).

Sounds like it should be a children's book

I just read about this group of people who rode out Ike in a church, with a lion from a local zoo. Sounds like it's just asking to be a children's book to me.

Fake album

The reason I go to the Fabulist is because they do all the hard work to find cool things, so I don't have to. In a recent post, they pointed out this fun album that Ben Folds "leaked" ... but not really. He has a new album coming out, so he recorded six fake tracks for the album, and leaked the fake songs. Problem is, they're not awful and are kinda fun. (You can find them here, or better yet, here. And read about it here. Thanks Fabulist...)

They also have a link to an old, rough John Lennon recording, which is pretty cool, too.

Effort to save Superman's house

I'm a comic book geek, and a book geek in general, and I have an appreciation for the history of where pop culture and Americana comes from, so I think this is a very interesting effort going on. An author recently went to visit the house of Jerry Siegel, one of the Superman creators, and found a very sad house in a very bad state of disrepair. So the Siegel & Shuster Society is now working to raise money to repair the house (for the current residents) and eventually buy the house when it comes up for sale. Superman wasn't really one of my favorites, but I think this is a worthy cause. (I will say, though, with all the talent backing this effort, you'd think they'd have better t-shirts to buy to support the cause. Maybe they're in the making...)
